Every time I'm in a pool, I like holding my breath until I trick myself to believe that's just how the world always is. I had a very surreal experience while on vacation a couple of months ago. I must confess I was in the pool all day. Sundown rolled over and the light started playing with my eyes. I saw this image before me. I tried to paint it as close as I could to my memory in terms of color and value. Being underwater is a natural way to see a reduced palette. I saw that the image before me was being erased by light. I saw that the volumes got tangled at the edges and started becoming the walls. It was quite a challenge to paint with these tightly controlled values.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
